Lofoten

Norway - Northern Norway

The Lofoten islands are magnificent, with towering mountains that appear to plunge into the ocean. These mountains are some of the oldest rocks in the world, shaped over time by numerous ice ages to create unique and surreal formations.

From a distance, they form the impressive Lofoten Wall, a 100 km long and 800-1000 metre high geological structure. The islands have lush vegetation, green fields, and human settlements in coves and valleys despite the rugged terrain. However, it’s always pretty close to finding a mountain or six. The rich fishing culture around the Lofoten islands is hard to miss, with traditional pointed fish racks and modern flat ones lining the fish villages along the southeastern “inside” of the archipelago. The red rorbue cabins were once used to shelter visiting fishermen, but today they provide tourist accommodation. Historically, wealthy merchants constructed trading posts with rorbue, grand main buildings, shops, and boat houses.

Reine Rorbuer$$$

Reine Rorbuer has a total of 39 cabins in different sizes and categories. Most of them have sea views and all of them are located just a few steps away from the crystal-clear water. The “rorbu” cabins were originally where fishermen lived during the fishing season. Even though the cabins have been modernised to a hotel standard, you will still get a sense of going back in time when you enter them. In addition to the cabins, Reine Rorbuer has one room and two apartments for rent. All cabin...
