The Casa Andina Colca, part of Casa Andina’s “classic” 3* brand of hotel, sits on the outskirts of the village of Chivay some 4 hours’ drive from Arequipa and at an altitude of 3600m above sea-level. A short walk to the centre of the village which hosts a vibrant weekly market as well as several local restaurants and the hotsprings of La Calera, the hotel is an excellent base to explore the Colca Canyon.

WHY WE LIKE THIS HOTEL

The Casa Andina is a good budget option in the Colca Canyon. Rustic in style, the hotel evokes the traditional design of the area with rendered, heavyset stone walls and a mix of thatched and tiled roofs. In the evening, guests gather around the fireplace in the lounge and order drinks from the small bar. At the heart of the grounds, there is small planetarium which offers nightly star-gazing, a real plus! Unlike many other hotels in the area, the Casa Andina allows interaction with the local village although it does tend to cater to larger groups.
