Overlooking the Tambopata River some 6-8 hours boat journey from Puerto Maldonado, the lodge sits across from the world’s largest known Macaw clay lick in an environment truly untouched by the outside world.

The Tambopata Research Station offers arguably the best jungle experience in South America. The surrounding forest pulses with life and the dizzying array of flora and fauna attract resident researchers and biologists from far and wide, specialists who mingle with guests each evening. Constructed with natural materials, the unfussy design of the lodge is typically Amazonian with high wooden beams and traditional thatch. The communal areas are admittedly simple yet bright and spacious and the ideal fit for a remote jungle lodge. The surrounding forest, however, is the highlight and the lodge offers fully inclusive programs with daily excursions accompanied by expert guides. The clay-lick, where hundreds of parrots gather each day, is the main attraction while other activities range from guided walks and boat trips to wildlife spotting and visits to the jungle tower.
