The city is a place of fascinating contrasts, surrounded by greenery and showcasing avant-garde art installations.

Currently enjoying a second youth, Łódź’s history dates back to 1423 when King Ladislaus Jagiełłon granted the settlement its town charter. However, it was only about 200 years ago that the town underwent rapid development due to the hard work and investment of Jews, Germans, Russians and Poles. Thanks to their efforts, Łódź emerged as Europe’s primary textile manufacturing center, a fact immortalized in Andrzej Wajda’s film “The Promised Land”. The factory owners built impressive palaces next to their production buildings, and today visitors can still admire a few dozen of these structures. The most noteworthy is the opulent palace of Izrael Poznański, now situated next to the Manufaktura complex after being transformed from a former textile factory.
