Polish chronicler Jan Długosz aptly described Toruń in the 15th Century.

Despite its growth and evolution since then, the town has always been a sight to behold. Długosz wrote, “With its ornate architecture and brick roofs, Toruń shines so brilliantly that few towns can match its beauty and grandeur.” Originally established in the 13th Century by the Teutonic Knights, the town was later relocated due to frequent flooding. Two towns, the Old and the New, quickly emerged, and the Teutonic Knights constructed their castle strategically between them.
