Portugal - Oasis Highlights

There are so many highlights in this fascinating country that it is impossible to list them all here. Our travel consultants will discuss your interests and be able to put a specific itinerary together for you, but below are a few must see’s!

Porto

If you happen to be in Porto for a short stay, there are certain places you must see. Visitors often describe the city as having a mystical quality that’s hard to tell, influenced by location, time of day, and lighting. This elusive charm is due to the friendly, hospitable locals, the River Douro and its surrounding heritage sites, including bridges, monuments, tiles, balconies, and shopping districts. Porto’s historic centre and the Gaia side of the River Douro, where the Port Wine lodges are located, have been designated as World Heritage sites.

The Douro Valley

The Douro Valley is often called the enchanted valley due to its stunning beauty and magical landscapes. Starting from Porto, where the river meets the sea, and famous Douro wines are produced, there are multiple ways to explore this cultural landscape, which has been recognised as a World Heritage Site. Whether you travel by road, train, cruise boat, or even helicopter, each experience is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.

Lisbon

Lisbon is a captivating city that entices you to embark on a journey of exploration, uncovering hidden gems in every neighbourhood and street. With its friendly and safe atmosphere, this relatively compact city has a wealth of sights to behold. Whether you’re looking for a few days’ respites or to begin a tour of the country, Lisbon is the perfect destination. Its blend of old and modern architecture is always a delightful surprise.

Silves

Silves, once the capital of the ancient Arab kingdom of Algarve, was a city of great importance. Its stately appearance from that era can still be seen in its most iconic landmark, the red-hued castle, which begs to be explored. This castle, the largest in the Algarve and considered the most beautiful military monument from Islamic Portugal, sits atop a hill in Serra de Monchique. Its towers and walls were strategically placed to monitor and defend the territory, and today offers stunning views of the fertile fields covered with orange trees surrounding the River Arade. It was initially built by the Arabs, possibly on the ruins of a Roman fort from the 4th or 5th century.
