Polovragi Cave

Romania - Bucharest & Southern Romania

The Polovragi Cave is a popular destination in Romania, known for being one of the longest caves in Europe, spanning over 10 kilometres.

Visitors are captivated by its mystical landscapes and the exciting tales of Zamolxe, a Dacian deity who once resided here. Legend has it that the cave is much longer than what is currently known, stretching to Sarmizegetusa. Additionally, there are rumours that Dacian gold is hidden within the cave, but those who search for it are said to meet a cursed fate by Zamolxe. The cave’s history is equally intriguing, with ancient cave drawings and cuneiform texts etched on the rock, dating back over 7 million years.
