This location dates back to the 14th century, with a monastery founded by Danube monks.

The present-day church, “Bogoslovul,” was built in 1835. It has an extensive library of 18,000 volumes played a significant role in developing Romanian medieval art and culture. The church is home to a miraculous icon of the Virgin, painted in Israel in 665 A.D., and another depicting the Virgin with three hands.
