Bran Castle

Romania - Transylvania

Bran Castle, situated on a cliff overlooking the valley in the popular tourist destination of Bran, is Romania’s most famous tourist attraction.

The castle gained notoriety due to the legend of Dracula, as portrayed in Bram Stoker’s novel, which is associated with the Romanian prince Vlad the Impaler. Construction of the castle began on November 19th, 1377, when it was initially designed as a fortress at the customs border between Transylvania and Romanian Country. The fort originally had four towers, a drawbridge entrance, gothic portals, narrow secret staircases made of stone, vaulted rooms, arches, and other unique architectural elements. The castle’s reputation grew over time due to the feudal art present here and the various exhibits on display, such as weapons, carpets, and furniture representing Renaissance and Baroque styles. The music room is adorned with Gothic elements. In 1920, Bran Castle was gifted to the Romanian royal family after a period of much attention and admiration.
