Originally a Viking settlement, Stornoway is now a great town and transport hub. Youāll find many hotels, B&Bs, and pubs upon your arrival by ferry from Ullapool or plane from Glasgow, Edinburgh or Inverness.
The town has a bustling harbour and fascinating attractions, including An Lanntair Arts Centre, Lewis Loom Centre and Lews Castle, a magnificent 19th-century construction with fine grounds, soon to re-open as a heritage museum and archives. A hub for the arts and Gaelic heritage, Stornoway hosts the annual Hebridean Celtic Festival and the community of the town and island, along with that of Harris, won a 2015 Creative Place Award in recognition of its exceptional contributions to Scotlandās cultural scene.
