FREETOWN
Between mountains and sea, Sierra Leone’s capital bubbles with colour and charm. One minute it’s enticing you with quiet beaches, the next it’s frenzied hurtling you up and down beautiful hills. Its majestic mountains enhance this vibrant city. At its heart is the largest natural harbour in the world and is a mass of colourful markets with a maze of streets and alleyways and plenty to enticing and exciting things to see and do.
TURTLE ISLANDS
There are eight tiny islands, Bakie, Bumpetuk, Chepo, Hoong, Mut, Nyangei, Sei and Yele, Which form the Turtle Islands. Each is a slice of pure, bright sand, framed by swaying palms silhouetted against a hazy blue sky. While the local chief makes his home on Chepo, Hoong is strictly for initiated men. Women passing in boats are known to have covered their heads in towels for fear of offending the spirits.
