A portion of the vast Kalahari Desert lying in the Northern Cape Province is part of a large arid to semi-arid sandy area known as the Kalahari Basin. Covering 2.5 million square kilometres, this area stretches from the Orange River to most of Botswana and parts of Namibia.
The Kalahari evokes a picture of never-ending red dunes, endless blue skies and a scorching sun shimmering unrelentingly on ancient dry riverbeds known as Omuramba.
