Nuwara Eliya

Unsurprisingly, a country so well known for its tea is home to vast rolling hills of picturesque tea plantations.

The area offers a refreshing climate in Sri Lanka’s central highlands. It is the perfect spot to spend a relaxing few days in one of the area’s beautiful boutique properties – many of which were original tea planter bungalows that have been converted into luxury accommodations. As well as great walking opportunities, the area is home to a number of tea factories that can be visited and provide a comprehensive insight into the whole tea production process.

The township of Nuwara Eliya itself has a quintessential English countryside feel and even features traditional red telephone boxes! Highlights of the town include Victoria Park, which boasts immaculately manicured gardens. Visits are especially worthwhile during the months of March to May and August and September, where the lawns are like a multi coloured tapestry – truly spectacular!
