Located around 30km east of Galle, Weligama (roughly translated as “Sandy Village”) is an attractive sleepy fishing town, quiet and relatively traffic-free.
The village itself has little to offer apart from a couple of resorts, a nice two kilometre stretch of shallow sandy beach (a great place to learn to surf), and a few shops and restaurants – which after a hectic tour around the country could be just what you’re after! The livelier town of Mirissa is only a 10 mins tuk tuk ride away.
