Located in the iconic Cultural Triangle on the Habarana to Polonnaruwa road, Minneriya National Park is most well known for its high population of elephants which is thought to be around 300 due to successful conservation work in recent years.
The best time to visit the park is during the dry season from May to September when the animals are more active as they search for water. Minneriya is also home to sambar deer, toque Macaques, leopards and a wide range of birdlife.
