The City of Birches, also known as UmeƄ, boasts of approximately 2,300 birch trees lining its avenues. This title was earned after the city suffered a great fire in 1888, leaving thousands homeless.

During the rebuilding process, birch trees were planted as they are known to contain a considerable amount of water, making them a natural fire barrier. UmeƄ, situated only 15 km away from the coast, offers easy access to the sea, mountains, and deep forests, making it the perfect destination for nature lovers. The city has a subarctic climate with distinct four seasons, including proper winters and short but enjoyable summers with the midnight sun. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, winters are relatively mild despite being situated in the northern hemisphere.
