Located on the historic Silk Road, Trabzon is a cultural and natural riches hub in the eastern Black Sea Region and a melting pot of religions, languages and cultures for centuries.
Such was its fame that in the 14th century, Marco Polo visited the city. Trabzon inspired other world-renowned travellers like Xenophon, Evliya Çelebi, Fallmerayer and Frunze, who immortalised the town in travel books and manuscripts.
