Montpelier

United States of America - New England

Montpelier may be the smallest state capital in the U.S but this fascinating city brims with historic appeal and unusual attractions. The Winooski River flowing through the heart of the city adds loads of character to its delightful downtown, charming shops, walking trails and cultural amenities.

Take the free tour of the gold-domed State House. Look for the statue of Revolutionary War hero Ethan Allen on the grounds and the Roman goddess Ceres cast atop the dome.

At the Vermont Historical Society Museum, learn about the state’s history, and behind the statehouse is one of the best hikes in town. Take the steep, wooded hillside to Hubbard Park and climb the 1930’s observation tower for a perfect view.
