United States of America - Southern United States

Almost every home on Charleston’s peninsula is historic making this area a year-round feast for the senses. Spring smells like tea olive, summer is salty breezes, fall tastes like slow-cooked collard greens, and winter is a hearty bowl of shrimp and grits.

While specific aspects of Lowcountry life are consistent– the rustle of palmetto fronds, crashing surf and the peal of church bells – each season ushers in extraordinary sensations.

Called the Holy City for its many church steeples this city was established in 1670 when Charleston fell victim to attack in the centuries to come by Native Americans, Pirates like the “Gentleman Pirate” Stede Bonnet, and throughout the War of 1812, and American Revolutionary and Civil Wars.

Visit classical sites like Ft. Sumter in the Charleston harbour, to stand where the initial shots of the Civil War were fired.
