The stunningly beautiful Ba Be Lakes are actually three adjoined lakes, namely – Pe Lam, Pe Lu and Pe Leng. They lie in the middle of a vast limestone mountain range in Bac Kan Province 200km north-west of Hanoi. The area has a lot to explore including waterfalls, rivers, valleys, lakes, and caves all set amidst a lush picturesque landscape. Ba Be Lakes, located 145 meters above sea level, are very tranquil and a boat trip to the Tay minority villages whilst admiring the fabulous scenery is a great way to relax.
The Lakes are surrounded by ancient woodland in which 300 animal species such as wild pigs, bears, panthers and monkeys can all be found. Accommodation is in local guest houses or staying with local families and in both cases the facilities are basic but the warmth of welcome and friendliness more than compensates.
