The Zambezi basin is the fourth-largest river basin of Africa, after the Congo, Nile and Niger basins.
The mighty Zambezi River rises in the Kalene hills and flows northwards for about thirty kilometres turning westwards and then south to run through Angola before re-entering Zambia. It then flows southwards through marshy plains. In the southwestern part of Zambia, the river becomes a border between Zambia and the eastern Caprivi Strip of Namibia for about one hundred kilometres.
